Pool Replacement

Pool Replacement

Replacement pools require leveling or removing old sand/vermiculite and block (footings for pool frame).  Any remnants of the old pool including screws or hardware, rusted metal and dry rotted brittle liner and coping remains also must be removed.  The installer must also dig back dirt, grass, weed-block cloth and small stone 18 inches around the perimeter of the pool site to make the leveled area at least 3 feet larger.  To replace the same size pool in the same location there will be a charge of $100 for any size pool in a level yard.  To replace the same size pool in the same location that is more than 6 inches in the ground in any section will require an additional charge depending upon the size of the pool and the depth in the ground.  If the pool is surrounded by large decorative stones there will be an additional charge as well.

In many cases when replacing a pool with an existing wood deck, the new pool is 4 inches taller than the old pool and the customer will request the installation of the pool at the same height.  This is not necessary for proper installation.  This will require additional excavation, bobcat access, and does not include removal of excavated earth.  If the pool is purchased at Branch Brook stores, of New Jersey, the salesman will inform the customer that they will get 5 inches of excavation free with the purchase of the installation.  This does not apply to reinstallation(in fact this is more like sinking a pool 6 inches. 4 inches of earth and 2 inches of sand from the original installation, this will require an additional charge of  $50 per inch).  If there is no access for the Bob Cat, the charge will be doubled.

Replacing pool with existing wood decks requires extra labor due to squaring pool height measurements and plumbing the new pool to the old location.  The installer must crawl under the deck to attach verticals, top and bottom caps, and crawl on top of the deck to set the liner and copings.  In many cases the customer is asked to remove decking boards prior to the installation to reuse them after the pool is installed.  This can make the installer’s job considerably more dangerous.  There is a possibility of falling between the deck joists or possibly being cut by exposed nails.  If it is a buttress pool, the installer must crawl under the deck to level the concrete support blocks.  In many cases the new pool will have a different number of buttresses.  The installer will have to strategically position pool or possibly have to remove concrete deck footings.  This is based on the location of the deck, not the size.  Many pools have different amounts, and different size top ledges and cutting of the decking or excess joists is required to install the pool.  If any deck is built halfway or more around the diameter of the original pool, it can not be replaced without some major cutting of the deck or opting to install a smaller size pool.  Even a simple one section deck can have over poured concrete up against the old pool which would need to be broken up and removed to install the new pool even remotely close to the existing deck.  Limited sand access is most commonly experienced when replacing a pool with an existing wood deck, in which case there would be an additional charge as well.  Approximate existing wood deck charges are as follows (charges are subject to change upon installation):

  • Deck surrounding round and pole pools - $50 per radius section
  • Deck bordering the side of buttress/non-buttress pools - $100 per buttress section
  • Deck surrounding ½ or more around the diameter/with of any pool - $300 and up

Any replacement pool with an existing center drain will be charged an additional $100 (replacement pools with center drains can not be guaranteed against leaks due to uncertain condition of center drain).
